Fiesta Time!

Here in San Antonio, it's Fiesta Time.

"Fiesta really is one of America’s truly great festivals. It began as a way to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. That commemoration still takes place. But over the past century and more, Fiesta has grown into a celebration of San Antonio’s rich and diverse cultures. 2012 marks Fiesta’s 121st anniversary"

Basically it's Mardi Gras, Tex-Mex style. Women dress in their most colorful attire and wear roses in their hair. There is also the NIOSA event that is 4 nights long and really brings diferent cultures together.

Soooo... anyway, needless to say, almost every woman from San Antonio you meet this next two weeks is wearing some sort of rainbow/multicolored piece of jewelry.

I was not going to be left behind.

I made this necklace, bracelet and the matching pair of earrings specifically for this occassion.

The necklace to the left is basically Mother of Pearl Shell in disc form approx 1in in diameter. I found them in a trip to Tampico, Mexico on vacation. In between each one is a Sterling Silver 3mm bead it is 36 inches long. The Bracelet on the right side in made exactly the same way. It is 7in long. The earrings in the middle, I made to match but found that they were huge and I didn't really like wearing them so I dismantled them and made these next ones.

I found these little disc MOP beads in a bead fest and bought all diffrent colors. They are about 1/3in wide and they are just the perfect dangle to match the necklace.

I'm all excited about going down to the Oyster Bake tonight. It's one of the events in the Fiesta lineup. So I'll be wearing my "Mexican Tunic" (mine is the third one down, the gold one) and my lovely set of jewelry. After 9 years living here, I finally feel I'm officially a San Antonian.

Thanks for Looking!
